The oddest criticism I’ve heard of Lana Del Rey so far is that her singing voice is emotionless. I just don’t get that at all? Like, the monotone-esque tone on ‘Video Games’ is obviously a distinct choice to inject this deeper, discontented theme into the song. She very carefully uses her voice stylistically on each song to fit with the meaning she’s trying to convey, but I don’t think that means she lacks emotion at all - in fact, I think her performances on some songs (‘Dark Paradise’, ‘Without You’, ‘Lucky Ones’) are pretty deeply emotional.

That argument, to me, just comes across as that of someone who has only heard ‘Video Games’ and not really /listened/ to it.
