Mockingjay spoilers ahead!

You guysssss I just was thinking about my Peeta/Katniss tag - I remember everything about you - and he says it when they’re in the cave and Peeta is telling Katniss the story of when he first fell for her, and she says he has a good memory and he says “I remember everything about you,” and that story is the first time Katniss is pulled out from the illusion, the performative aspect of their romance. It’s the first time she thinks this seems true, this seems real. Peeta’s feelings have been real all along and Katniss is performing but she senses something genuine beneath the surface. He centers Katniss and helps her remember who she truly is and where she comes from during the Games.

And then in Mockingjay, in a cruel twist of fate, their positions are switched. Peeta’s claim, that I remember everything about you is perverted such that he remembers everything in the wrong way. Katniss is the one who knows what is real this time, and it’s up to her - cold, closed-off, emotionally inept Katniss - to remind Peeta of what is real. Katniss is the one who remembers everything about him. Your favorite color is orange, like the sunset. You’re a painter. You’re a baker. You like to sleep with the windows open. You never take sugar in your tea. And you always double-knot your shoelaces. Their roles are reversed. Katniss remembers everything about Peeta, and he remembers nothing about her.
